Nap issues for 11.5 mth old
« on: April 24, 2007, 17:15:25 pm »
My wonderfully napping 11.5 mth old has recently been taking SOOOOO long to go down for a nap.  It used to be that I'd put her down, and she'd cuddle with her blankie for awhile before falling asleep.  Now, as soon as I put her down, she is crawling all over the place/thumping her legs, talking, shrieking.  Now, I've still been waiting for her "sleepy signs", and nothing has changed in that department...still does the yawning, acting a bit restless, those have always been her tired signs.  I'm just wondering what is going on.  I really don't think she is ready for just 1 nap a day b/c on days when we are out and about and she just has 1 nap, she is a BEAR, and she really doesn't sleep especially long.  Thing is, with the baby sitter (2 days a week) DD still goes down great for naps, it seems to be with just me that she's having problems?  Here is our schedule:

6:45 Wake up and BF
8am Breakfast
9:45-10:00 Down for 1st nap (usually 1.5 hrs)
11:15-11:30 Wake and BF
12:30 Lunch
2:15-2:30 Down for 2nd nap (usually 1hr-1.5 hrs long)
3:45-4:15 Wake and BF
5:30 Dinner
6:45 Bath and bottle
7:15 Sleeping

this schedule has worked GREAT for us for the last 4 months.  She is nearly 12 months old.  Any suggestions on what to try?  She acts SO tired, which is why I put her down, but yet it'll take a minimum of 20 minutes of DD moving all around before a nap till she falls asleep.  I've tried putting her to bed later, and it's the same thing.

Thanks!

Is she just doing this for her morning or afternoon nap? Does she cry when you put her down? The fact she is going down for the babysitter means she is probably testing you out which is quiet common at this age.

She is doing this for me for both naps actually.  I think the reason that she doesn't do it for the baby sitter, is that she gives her her bottles before naps.  She's always done this, and it seems like DD has always known that for me, I don't feed before naps, and her baby sitter does and she's been fine.  She doesn't cry at all, it's just the second I put her down now, she crawls all over, sits up, thumps her feet, talks, shrieks, until eventuallys she'll go to sleep, usually around 30 minutes later.  She is taking decent naps after that, but it's been for about 1 week now.  Do you think she may be ready for more A time?

Okay, so I kept Sophie up about 25 minutes longer...she seemed to be doing fine.  Did a wind-down routine, and she went down right away!!  Yay!  But, however, she has been sleeping for 55 minutes, and I hear her in the monitor!!!!  She hasn't woken up that early in FOREVER from her naps...

Okay, so that nap sucked...no going back down for Sophie....so longer A time means shorter naps?  I don't think I like that idea....

Try extending the nap by 15mins at a time for a few days and see how that goes.

2nd nap of the day, extended by 15 minutes, and she is now awake at 45 minutes!  I want to cry...at least before, she'd be sleeping for 1-2 hrs each nap, now I'm dealing with a 45 minute napper and a crabby one....help!

Hmmm HUGS first of all.
Ok back to your usual routine my DD goes through days where she takes longer to fall asleep for her naps and bedtime it all depends on her day.
