Night Wakings and daytime sleep
« on: April 26, 2007, 13:32:24 pm »
Hello,

I am just curious as to what would be considered too long naptime. My lo usually naps anywhere between 1 - 1.5 hour at each nap.  He takes 2 naps a day...i am in the midst of eliminating his catnap at 5:00 b/c i found that it would take him longer to settle for bed time at 7:30.

Here is my routine:

7:30 awake & bottle 4-6oz
8:30 cereal & fruit
10:00-11/11:30 nap
11:30 bottle 6oz
12:30 lunch - veggies
2:00-3:30 nap
3:30 bottle
5:30 dinner- cereal, veggies, fruit
7:00 bath/bedtime routine/bottle 6oz
7:30 asleep

I realize that the evening stretch he is up a long time.  However, if he is up at 3:30, 5:30 is too late for a catnap b/c then he fights to go down at 7:30.  When he is up for that long stretch, he doesn't seem to be too cranky...we usually take him outside for a walk around 6 & that settles him until his bath at 7:00.

Please share your suggestions on my routine, so I can try to help the frequent nightwakes...i too have little help from ds and now that the nightwakes are getting worse,he tries to help but that just makes my lo get more hysterical as i think he isn't used to seeing his dad at night??

Oh, by the way, what is the BW suggestion on eliminating the last feed???  I am not too familiar with BabyWIse and was contemplating on purchasing the book.  Is is worth it???
Thanks for your help

Hi there, the book is soooo worth it, its saved my sanity, it cost me a tenner but worth every penny.  Cant really advise on night wakings, sometimes it is due to overtiredness, my little girl wont sleep well at night if she does not have a catnap at 5:30.  What feed do you want to eliminate?  I think its good your lo has a feed before bed, we struggle to get it into my DD.  Do you do a DF at 10-11pm?  We do this and this stops her waking until about 5am  ;D

Thanks for your input, just curious did you implement anything from the BabyWise book?

Did you find that it helped with nighttime sleep?

I have never done a dreamfeed, and now he is 8 mos old, so I think he is too old for it anyhow.  Sometimes I do feed him at night (3/4am) if he is up for a long time and won't get back to sleep.  I leave it as a last resort, and he usually drifts right off, after his bottle & burp.

Hi there, I implemented the EASY routine from the baby whisperer book, (think thats what you meant rather than babywise? EASY Stands for Eat Activity Sleep You (time)

Here is a sample of my day, but bear in mind my daughter is 4 months old

E - 7:30 + baby rice
A - 7:30 - 8:45
S - 9-00 - 11am (ideal, sometimes goes pear shaped
Y

E - 11:30
A - 12 - 2 ish
S - 2ish - 3:30 ish (sometimes wakes up earlier)
Y

E - 3:30
A - 4-5pm
S - Catnap (30-40 mins)
Y

E - 7:30
A - Quiet time and bath
S - 8pm
 Rest of night is mine

Basically the BW book is saying that if you keep to a structured routine in the order above, your baby will thrive as they always know what is coming next.  It is also great with helping with poor sleeping, feeding, bad sleep asscociations and props, so buy it def, the above was only a brief "in my own words" type thing!  It will cover the age group your LO is in  :D

Hello,

Thanks for your reply..but I was actually talking about the BabyWise Book.  I have the Baby Whisperer book & have implemented many things from it, including 4 hour EASY routine.  However, in the Night Waking Forum I have heard many refer to the Baby Wise book and implementing some of their routines.   That is what I was refering to.  Sorry about the confusion.

Has anyone implemented or read the Baby Wise book???

Thanks
