2 to1 Which way worked best for you??
« on: May 05, 2007, 11:56:45 am »
Sweet Jack has never been a good sleeper :-\  However, we finally got him sleeping through the night at 12 months.  He has been doing great for 3 months now SOOO IT WAS ABOUT TIME FOR A NEW PROBLEM ;)

He is really resisting the second nap and now starting to wake again at night so I figure we are ready for the switch.

I was just wondering what worked better for you :     Pushing the AM nap back slowly until it was after lunch OR  shorting the Am to try to get rid of it??  Any suggestions on where to start??

we have just completed the transition at 16mo and for us it was shorten the am nap. I found with dd if she had a long am nap there was no chance in hell that she would take a catnap later in the day so it had to be the other way round. I think you'll find most here are doing that.
Suggest you check in on the thread at the top of the Naps board about the 2-1 Nap transition- everyone there is going through or has recently been through the same thing and can give you loads of advice to get you through it!

We just went for it with both boys and kept them up until after lunch.  Although both of them did fall asleep in lunch a few times ;D

It really depends on your LO and how they handle transtions.

we kept pushing and pushing the am nap out, spending several weeks taking him for a late afternoon walk in the stroller, at which point he couldn't resist a catnap. once even the catnap started to be resisted, we had to go cold turkey and bring bedtime forward a little. and we finally got our sleeping through the night  ;D

With both girls I had to shorten am nap - no chance of getting a catnap in the pm for us. Isabella transitioned at 15/16 months and J is doing a short am nap and pm nap at the moment.
