Those that gave up naps.....
« on: May 10, 2007, 02:15:52 am »
Question -- how long after giving up naps, did they get used to it and stop being cranky?  We are considering taking away the nap but my DH is against it because he's afraid she's going to totally melt without it.  So how long does the crankiness usually last?

Um, I can't really remember... but probably a good month or so.  Even now (around 3 months since she was napping regularly) dd1 will fall asleep in the mid afternoon if we go on a reasonably long car ride.  But she's past that stage of really losing it by dinner time (thank goodness!).  I do put her to bed half an hour earlier than before which I've found is essential!

I didnt really notice that Ewan was crabby after he dropped his nap.  Although we made sure that he had at least one hour of "quiet time" in the afternoon when he would have napped.  If she is really crabby she may not be ready to drop it yet.

How is her overnight sleep?

Lana there's a seperate post labeled "she's so so cranky" below.  That tells about her night time sleep!  And the responses I got.  Just to see if you agree with it or not!

Ok I did go and take a look, sorry I didnt realise you had a thread already going :-[.  I would agree with most of the pp's.  Drop the nap and then have some quiet time watching a video or reading books.  That is what we did.  And once we dropped that nap then Ewan started to sleep a solid 12 hours overnight with no problem.  He was doing exactly what Carmela is doing, he would chat for ages at bedtime and he did it at naptime too and then when we would wake him at 3 he would be crabby.

I know that is where we are headed.  I was just saying in that thread how Carmela doesn't act overtired.  Well with going to bed at 10:00 last night, waking up at 7:30 (brother woke her) and having preschool, she is a CRANK right now.  On school days, I get her to nap at 12:45-1 (it was 1:00 today) and she's in there singing and stuff.  I know she is CLEARLY overtired :(  I'll wake her at 2:30 today and see how she does tonight.  Arrgh.
