Can ready-to-pour formula be frozen?
« on: June 01, 2007, 19:46:52 pm »
Hello,

I'm about to transition my 5 mo LO onto a bottle of formula for his dreamfeed because I would like to stop expressing my milk. We're going to take it slowly, and begin by mixing the formula with breastmilk. I decided that ready-to-pour would be easiest to start with since we'll be using small amounts. However, I live in France and ready-to-pour only comes in 500ml bricks that need to be disposed of after being open for 48 hours. This means I'm going to end up throwing out quite a lot of formula in the first couple of weeks, which seems completely wasteful (not to mention expensive). Does anyone out there know if it's possible to freeze small amounts of formula (as I do with EBM) and thaw as needed?

TIA,
Alison

I really don't think it's suitable for freezing.  I'm sure it says that on the tin somewhere. Is there a helpline number you could ring?
If you're only going to be using small amounts it would be easier and cheaper I would think, to buy a small tin. That way you can make up an ounce at a time and the tin is good for 6 weeks once it's opened.

Thanks for the advice, ladies. I'll look to see if there's a helpline that I can call, but I'm pretty sure you're right in saying that I can't freeze it.
