Is he ready for one nap?
« on: May 16, 2007, 14:13:33 pm »
My son will be 1 on May 23 (next week --  :o I'm a bit confused.  My son was doing great with two naps, but last week we had a lot to do for my daughter so he ended up taking a short 15 min catnap in the car, and then we'd run with my daughter and I'd put him down for a longer nap in the afternoon (about 1.5-2 hours).  It worked well.  Bedtime was a bit earlier than normal.

Now on Monday he was so exhausted, he slept 2 hours in the morning and 1 hour in the pm.  I figured he was tired from having just one nap all weekend so yesterday I went back to 2 naps.  Well in the morning, he slept 30 mins and in the afternoon he slept 30-45 mins.  Today I put him in at regular first nap time (10) and he's not sleeping yet!  He was crying and now playing.

Should I just put him on one nap then???  Or am I missing cues and maybe he just needs longer A time now that i screwed up the 2 naps???

This is our routine (on 2 naps):

6:30-7 awake
10:00--11 nap
2:00-3:30ish nap
7:30 bedtime

Hi there,

There is a great thread in the nap forum - it's the 2-1 nap switch thread (it's a sticky at the top of the first nap page - sorry, I don't know how to do a link for you to click on).  There is tons of good info there.  It sounds to me like he may be transitioning to one nap, but I'm absolutely no expert!  The girls there will be able to tell you though.

Good luck!
Michelle.

Wow ~ our kids must have read the same book!!! Rocco turns one on May 25th, too! Anyway, maybe it is a developmental thing.... who knows.  This WAS our routine:

730 awake
1000 nap (1.5 hr)
300 nap (1 hr)
730 bedtime

Yesterday was a mess.... but lately... he has been playing A LOT in his crib before he actually falls asleep.  I have a video monitor, so I have him figured out most of the time!  But, he usually falls asleep.  Yesterday, he was awake after 30 min in the AM and refused a nap in the PM.  So he was awake from 1130 until 650 last night.  I was banging my head off the walls... it is so frustrating.

This is what I tried (per another BW), shorten the AM nap to bring the PM nap closer, but longer.  Doesn't work with Rocco.... I shortened the AM nap, and he didn't sleep long enough in the PM.  His AM nap has ALWAYS been his longest.  I think I programmed his catnap!!! Cause his PM naps are always short.  With him, I think it will be best to make his morning A time longer to get to one nap.  But I just don't know WHEN to do that.....  Any input will be appreciated.

I rambled a lot... sorry.... hopefully, we can figure this out!!!

What, you mean with 2 kids you don't have time to read 47 pages???  ;)  Just post your question at the end and everyone will tell you their stories - without you having to read all of it!  It's crazy how much talking some of these mums can do!

Good luck,
Michelle.
