When will this ever end???
« on: May 22, 2007, 02:31:05 am »
When will our lo's sleep finally be sorted once and for all? :'( She is now 27 months, and we're having to do sleep re-training yet again :(. It seems like she goes to bed fine for a while, and then it all goes haywire again. She's been giving us trouble with both naps and bedtime again. She stalls as long as possible asking dh or me to read multiple books, and then cries when he leaves (or when I leave the room at naptime) and will keep it up until dh or I go back in. Today she woke at 3:40am screaming for us, and my dh and I took turns staying with her until 7-something when she woke once and for all for the day. She would scream/cry if we tried to leave her room or put her back in her crib. I am a very tired, frustrated pregnant woman!! :( Is it possible that dd is acting out because of the new baby soon to arrive? (in August) Or is this just typical 2-year-old behavior?

HUGS to the sleep-deprived mum!

In our experience with DD, she is a pretty easy kid, but will take anything and make the most of it when it comes to bed/nap time routines.  She sleeps through the night for the most part, but if she wakes up with a runny nose or some such one night, you can guarantee she will wake up the next one or two nights and try it on!

I would still say we need to 're-train' often, and shut down night wakings as quickly as we can!

As for the screaming, did she have a bad dream/nightmare?

Do you talk to her when you are in the room with her? Does she just calm with your presence? Do you have a set bedtime routine that you stick with? What is it?

Sorry for all the questions, but it might help us give you the best advise...

Thanks for your replies ladies - I appreciate it. My post was more of a vent than anything - thanks for "listening". Things are going better. Dh did wi/wo the night before last night when I was posting, and it took over an hour, so it was stressing me out. Last night though, she only cried for a couple minutes, and the same tonight. So the re-training seems to working pretty quickly. :)
