Well I have got it down to taking 15 mins to get him off to sleep. I lay him down as normal, he is so tired, he closes his eyes ready to snooze, he hears me leave the room and screams. i wait 5 seconds, then lay him back down and as I walk towards the door he stands up again and starts screaming, so i stand at the door, say 'mummy's here, go to sleep' and sit outside with the door ajar, looking at the floor, but so that he can still see me. It is so a phase. I am sure of it. I know how he gets when he is ready to have a routine change and it is not hysterical like this. Anyway, he will keep standing up then sitting down, standing up and screaming then lying back down - all the time checking that I am still there. Eventually he will go off to sleep.
I am keeping my fingers crossed that this doesn't continue for the long term - he needs to go to sleep on his own - like he does for his daytime naps.
This is how he is right before I put him down, despite a fabulous wind down routine that has never failed...
He is suddenly hyper-child - and everything is exciting to him, everything is hilarious and funny, he wants to run around, suddenly finding energy that wasn't there before bathtime, giggling, talking... It's as if he is trying to prove to me that he doesn't need to go to bed and can stay up all night.
I will keep you posted but things haven't got back to the way they were :-(
Brandon's mum and fred'smama - keep me posted if you find any reason or alternative for this dealing with this behaviour!!! Cos I haven't got a clue - and if one more person says he is teething I might kill them!
