pickle question
« on: May 30, 2007, 22:35:58 pm »
anyone else's lo obsessed with pickles??  DD LOVES them!!  If she so much glances at one, she'll pounce on it and scarf the whole thing.  The thing is- she'll end up throwing up later that night!  I'm guessing it's because she'll drink 8oz of milk and the milk will curdle in her belly due to the vinegar from the pickle?  Anyone else deal with this? We've only allowed her to have pickles a couple of times because of them.

Scotty loves pickled HERRING. He doesn't drink milk only yoghurt. I don't give him it after he had pickled stuff... he also loves salt and vinegar crisps  :-X pickled gurken, pickled cabbage (coleslaw).

Anything with vinegar. he also eats raw onions if I'd let him and lemons. But he gets a sore bottom if I let him eat them :)

Maybe you can give her the pickles when you know she won't have milk for a few hours?

liv loves olives and we often give them a quick rinse if they are very salty ones.  you could do the same for the pickles. quick rinse under the tap and then pat it dry if necessary.  she won't see a difference in texture and the flavour will just be milder - and less of a problem if she has dairy too close - worth a try

Do I need to be careful about dairy (or milk) and vinegar?  I had no idea.

I'm thinking yes- but that's why I posted this (cause I'm not too sure).  It was just that everytime she had pickles and then a bottle of milk, she would throw up- and not just a little spit up.  A real throw up.  (sorry, that's gross  :-X).
