When do you move to big bed?
« on: May 24, 2007, 12:51:28 pm »
My ds is 2.  When do you recommend to transfer to a bed?  I want to try potty training in the summer so would really like him to be used to it by then.

He sleeps in a gro bag at the moment, would you suggest getting rid of that and just having a duvet and pillow?

Also, would you consider having a stairgate at his door?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

both of my girls were around 18months.India is still in her grow bag with a sheet to tuck her in,she also has a pillow.we have a stair gate on the bedroom doors and to be truthful she now sleeps better than ever through the night.i think this is because she has more room and does not hit her head on the cot bars.if we could just get her away from 5am starts it would be perfect ::) ::) ;D....jenny.

Toby climbed out of his cot on his second birthday  ::) so we made the transition then. We didn't put a stairgate at the door as he just shouted for us anyway, so when he wakes he comes into our bedroom and usually falls asleep again  :)

18 mos after dd started to jump and climb out of her crib.  We don't have a gate at her door.  For the first few months, she didn't know that she could leave her bed (double mattress on the floor).  Now, she would either shout for us or walk out the door when she wakes.

Going to bed has suffered a bit lately (we're in the midst of GW) but her last molar is coming through so I'm willing to put up with it a while longer.   :P  Fortunately dd prefers dh for the bedtime routine so I'm off duty at 7:30 pm.   ;D

I've heard that 18 months to 2 years is the norm.  BUT I have also read that many kids aren't ready to move to a big bed until say...3!  :o  This being my first child...I was wondering the same thing too as I know that with moving our los into big kid beds, comes a new set of challenges when trying to get them to sleep.  Any truth to this anyone?

I think that there will always be challenges and adjustments to be made when things change.  How quickly the transition will be and how it affect your lo depends greatly on their temperment and personality.  Hindsight, I wish that dd had stayed in her crib a little longer but I can't stop her from growing up (and developing a diva attitude!) ;) ;D
