Hi Kelly

I always just changed the formula straight off with my son, as advised by my Health Visitor .  Most juice is recommended for 4 months and over, unsure why, but I gave my DD it from 14 weeks and my HV said it was fine also.  I think their thinking (the manufacturers) is that no additional fluids are required until 4-6 months when solids are introduced. Don't know if that is really the reason, just what I think they think!!! My DD never drank water but loves her juice, is that why you want to give juice?

I think it has to do with the fact a baby of that age doesn't need juice as they get everything from their formula .Also you have to watch for sugar in juice as it can rot teeth ,even if your LO doesn't have any it can cause damage before they come through. Also you are encouraging a sweet tooth . If you want to give a drink to your LO at that age i would be trying to encourage water but not too much as she will fill up on water and not want formula . We introduced water when we started solids as Ryan suffered with constipation

I agree with Ryans mum.  It is not recommended to give juice at such a young age due to the fact that they don't need anything else besides their milk and it can encourage a sweet tooth.

We too used warm water when DS suffered from constipation.

Thanks everyone , shall not use juice just yet then. Didnt realise you could rot their teeth before they have even come out yet  :D

The sugar can soften the enamel so the teeth come through with soft enamel ,if your LO then has a lot of sugary foods the enamel can't cope and will start to rot .

did not know that about the teeth thing   :o

DD who is 5 months has very diluted juice (baby juice) as will not contemplate water, and having nothing apart from formula and solids constipates her. All worried now!!!!

This is why they don't recommend putting juice in a bottle as the constant sipping through the day is not good for teeth ,an open cup is better . They also say if you are going to give juice then you should be diluting it 75% water and 25% juice . Maybe when your LO starts solids you can find a food that helps like prunes . Keep offering water and one day she may take to it .
