Overtired, night wakings AND early wake ups, grrrrr
« on: May 29, 2007, 18:19:39 pm »
I think I am in an overtired, night waking, early wake up cycle and I am not sure how to get out...

To make up for all the NWings and early wake ups, David is going to bed at around 6:30 (we want 7:30 to be bedtime, ultimately) the last few nights, before that it was 6:45.  We keep having to go to bed earlier make up for increasing night wakings or early wake ups.

My question I guess is, because this seems to be endless and not really getting better, should I be putting David to bed even earlier??  I have a hard time with earlier, it just seems too early...  Have I just not let him catch up enough??

Hey Mari!

The routine we want is:

Wake 7
Nap 12-2,2:30
Bedtime 7:30

Right now I am putting him down the last few nights around 6:30 b/c of all the nwings and waking early.  He is sometimes waking around 5ish, but I am not getting him out of bed until 6.  So, up sometime between 6 and 6:30 lately.

Once we are done with overtiredness I was going to work on pushing bedtime back to 7:30 by 15 min increments, but I can't seem to get past overtiredness due to nwings, especially the last few nights.  Frustrating.  Now we are leaving on a trip in a week, but I guess that doesn't have much to do with now and wanting to get past this... just saying, we'll probably be messed up again very soon.  ::)

Thanks!   :D

Is he napping well during the day?

Not really.  Normally, if there is such a thing, he wakes once during the nap and then is up between 2:15-30.  Today he woke once and then was up at 1:30, which is before he'll wake usually.

I just put him down at about 6:15, he was obviously tired and waiting longer would've have been too much for either of us.  I just have a hard time with bed this early, for some reason.

Well, it went decent.  Still had NWings, 5, but woke at 7.  So, I guess we are catching up...  My problem is somewhere in this catching up for several nights I miss the night he should finally start pushing bedtime later...  any good ways to tell?

I am posting again, but I am so frustrated!  DS only slept an hour at nap today!  What is going on?!?!?  He isn't eating well right now either, which I am sure isn't helping sleep.  Didn't eat a thing at lunch, just whined and fussed...  AHHHHHHHH I am just so frustrated, and tired!

Looking at your DS' age, is it possible his teeth are bothering him?  We are having major sleep issues with our DD right now too, she's about 2 months younger than your DS and I know she has just cut some molars and her eye teeth are coming in.  I know that's not the only issue... but just wondered if it might be a contributing factor?

It's so frustrating isn't it?  Overtired and not sleeping is such an awful cycle.   :'(

Kris-I agree, take a peek in his mouth.  cole got his molars from Sept. - December (YES, 4 long months) and then his incisors in January and February.  so from 17-22 months was a nightmare for us...on top of our regular sleep issues :P

oh, i just can't wait for the two year molars ;)

I do think that it sounds like teeth.  A sure sign is when they are off their food.  Hang in there, the worst bit only lasts a couple of days.  Do you give him meds?
Poor little David, I hate teeth, I wish we were born with them.

Yep, I checked, it's teeth, uggggghhhh!  Thanks Heather for that initial heads up... I really thought we were starting a nice break of the teeth drama!

Mari, I do give meds when it's teeth, but hadn't over the last few days, not realizing what all the additional commotion was about ::)

DS already has his first molars, it is one tooth (I think an incisor...) that seems to be causing all this trouble!  I really do hate teeth!!!  And tonight I checked him and he has fever...

I am with you Traci, not looking forward to the 2 year molars, although at the rate we are going we might get them long beforehand!

I went ahead and put him down at 6:25, he wasn't ready to go up to bed, but once he gets there, he is fine, so...  I still think he is overtired from all of this and this isn't the first time we have gotten stuck in this cycle!  I just don't know how to get his 7 or even 7:30 bedtime back...  I guess we'll be waiting to see...

Thanks guys!

Kris
