Hi

A little light-hearted topic, methinks. Our wee Katie has recently turned 2 years old  ;D

In the last few weeks, she has developed from a few words to really long and convoluted sentences describing all sorts of things - it is completely amazing!!

However, one drawback (apart from the fact that I sometimes find it hard to keep up), is that she sometimes finds it very hard to get to sleep at night because she just has so much to say! In fact, she will cuddle up on her side, eyes getting ready to shut, and then remember something else to talk about....  ::) On some evenings, it can take her 2 hours of nearly falling asleep then talking some more (over and over again!) before she is ready to go to sleep!

I am not really concerned about this (she still averages between 11 - 12 hours sleep in 24 hours, which I know is on the short side for her age, but she very rarely is grumpy from lack of sleep), but I was wondering if this 'stage' passes?

I appreciate that she needs to process her day (some of the things she says are really sweet, all about her and her cousin going swimming and to grandma's house etc etc), but do our toddlers eventually learn to process their day quickly, say within 10 or 15 minutes?! I am sure the answer is yes, but just would be interested in others' stories!

You think they talk a lot at 2?  You wait til they turn 3 then 4!!

Lydia also talks a lot at bedtime, way more than Sam.  She has to go through her list of words at least twice!  All you hear is 'Mama, Daddy, all gone, Rarry (Harry), Sam, hello, alright, done, a bike, a car, finished'...and on and on and on...
Harry: 29 July 2003
Lydia: 28 June 2005
Sam:  28 June 2005
David: 28 June 2005 - 12 August 2005
Daniel: 19 July 2007
That's all folks!
(Well, maybe another girl if I can convince DH!)

DD does the same and has done since she was 2. We get lots of singing too and she goes through the whole day.  Nap time takes about 15 mins to sleep but night time can take between 30 mins to an hour. The only time she doesnt do it is when she hasnt had a nap then its sleep straight away.

Yes - Phoebe used to take about an hour to go off to sleep, she would be merrily singing or chatting away - it was so funny and cute, we even taped her singing through the monitor one night cos it cracked us up so much.  She has stopped it now as she hardly ever naps in the day and is so tired by bedtime we don't hear a peep.

What drives me crazy are the *long* car rides.  We "talk" about the same things over and over again.   I am grateful my lo can talk.  And, I am sure it cuts down on frustration but,... ::)

Thanks - these are so funny! Yeah, we have long car rides where we have lots of the same things over and over, plus lots of songs over and over....

Last night, Katie struggled to get to sleep again.... she was saying to herself ' Katie, go to sleep, Katie, close eyes'... then a pause... then a 'No!' then a giggle  ::) After this carried on for a bit, she did a few enthusiastic rounds of 'Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes' (too funny).... an hour later, she came out saying she needed a wee-wee (she isn't fully potty trained yet - in fact, we are not even 'training', just letting her get on with it), so off came the nappy, on to the loo, new nappy, then she 'NEEDED warm milk' so daddy got some milk, she took two sips, then went off to bed to sing 'the wheels on the bus' before finally falling asleep. WHEW!

(a little selfishly, I am looking forward to when she drops her nap so we can have day-long trips and early bedtimes!)

Needless to say, she was a little tired this morning, but still trotted into nursery with no bother.

I have to say, I am SO glad Katie can talk so much, but I also get a wee bit tired... oh, well, mummy's lot!

My 2 year old DS can lay in his cot for up to an hour at night  :o perfectly happy and singing "in the morning" by Razorlight over and over again! I think he just has too much to say and cannot fit it into a day!

LOL--we had a stage that she did this for an hour or two each night.  Like others have said, now she often doesn't nap (so she still talks all through that) so at night she usually goes down quicker.  But we'd hear her singing away for an hour or two when she was around 2-2.5 years old.  It was hilarious some nights.

My Mom says it is payback for me.  I don't normally talk a lot unless I know the person/am comfortable with them.   I have been apologizing to my family a lot lately for this.  ;)
