Need help to drop milk feeds
« on: July 08, 2007, 01:32:27 am »
Hi,

My little one is now 1 and we are still on 4 bottles (20oz) of milk a day. He is not showing any signs of wanting to drop them (except sometimes the bedtime bottle). The problem is he is not interested in fingers foods yet and I am unsure what to feed him for snacks and whether to keep his bottles for snacks until he shows some sign. I am a first time mum and he still eats purees, but I have managed to get him to eat soft fruit peices. I am finding it hard to get him interested to eat finger foods. I have tried since he was 10 months old. He still tends to gag on lumps.

He suffered silent reflux and has been slow with solids. He also shows no interest in any sippy cups...it took us so long for him to enjoy a bottle, I don't want to push him to another type?

Appreciate any advice

Sharron

You can try decreasing the milk in one of the bottles and replacing it with some yogurt, made with whole milk as most are made with skim milk, as a snack and/or cottage cheese, etc. My dd at that age I switched to 2 8oz bottles so she was getting her 16oz plus yogurt daily which she loves.

Also, my dd was not wanting to get rid of her milk either, even now I could probably replace all her meals with milk and she'd love it.  I just found food she really likes, such as anything in pasta sauce, and started buying the Heinz 8month+ bottled food then switched to the Heinz toddler bottled food which are still small enough pieces, but I stuck to the 8month bottle food for a month or too before switching to the toddler ones. Now at 18 months she eats cut up pork chops, steak, you name it.  I had her on purees too for a long time, mainly because I didn't know any better, she was so use to them. But I say find something he really likes and go with it if you can. My dd still loves anything in pasta sauce.
