how many naps for 6 week old?
« on: July 23, 2007, 20:27:09 pm »
Tracy's book says that a 6 week old baby should have 3 naps (1.5 hours each). The schedule I'm trying to follow includes 4 naps and looks something like this:

7 a.m. (eat, activity, sleep)
10 a.m. (eat, activity,sleep)
1 p.m. (eat, activity, sleep)
4 p.m. (eat, activity, sleep)
7 p.m. (eat, bath, bedtime)

Should I eliminate one of these naps?

I would say that all depends on how well your lo is sleeping at night!  If your lo is sleeping really well at night, I wouldn't mess with anything.  I believe for a 3 hour EASY we always had 4 naps, but the last one (your 4pm nap) is actually a catnap - a 45 minute nap just to get them through the late evening and won't be overtired by bedtime.  A dream feed around 10 might help out getting night time sleep longer if you haven't already started doing one.  We started doing the DF around 7 weeks, and I really think that is one of the big things that got dd sleeping through the night.  That and a really great, predictable EASY.  Hope that helps!
