unheard of nap schedule?
« on: July 26, 2007, 19:02:26 pm »
My 10-month-old twins (8 adjusted) have finally revealed to me their new nap schedule, after 3 weeks of me trying to figure out what they needed (they dropped their catnap about a month ago). I'm still trying to tweak food and bottles. This is what we have so far... I think:

6 am wake up (a recent phenomenon- was 5:30); bottle
7:30 breakfast
9:45- 11:45 nap
12:00-12:30 bottle and lunch
3:00 small bottle
3:15/ 3:30 catnap; 40 minutes
5:00 dinner
6:15 bedtime bottle
6:40 into bed- babbling, sometimes moaning
7 asleep

My questions: So far I haven't read of anyone who follows this sort of schedule. Most kiddos this age seem to take a catnap in the am and longer one in the pm. Is there anyone out there whose day looks like this?

Is this the beginning of transition to one nap? I thought it migh be too soon.

Don't know if it's any help, but another book I have (Rachel Waddilove's book) suggests having the naps this way around....

My LO did something simlar for months--started around 8 or 9 months and continued until he was 13-14 months.  At that point, the morning nap was getting him so well-rested that he wouldn't take a cat nap, but it wasnt' late enough to be his one nap, so we had to start doing a 20 minute am nap (usually in the car  ::)), which we did until 18 months, and then he finally went to one nap.

At 8-9 months I tried the short am nap and it didn't work at all, so we stuck with long am nap and short pm nap for quite a while.

I had to shorten the am nap today because of a dr's appt- 45 minutes only- and they slept only 1/ 1.5 hr in the pm- that's more than a half hour less than yesterday for both of them. And they had a harder time settling down for sleep tonight.

Thank you for allowing me to have company in this.

In Tracy's book she actually recommends a long am nap and short pm nap during the transition from 2 to 1 nap so you are in very good company!!  ;D
Don't worry that you are doing it "differently" to others here; we all just have to find what works best for our lo's. Sounds like you are doing just great x
