9 month EASY - need help as have gotten off track
« on: July 30, 2007, 22:40:34 pm »
I am currently implementing PUPD to help sort out some sleep related props (rocking/ nursing) but we are completely out of sync with our old EASY routine/schedule and I need some suggestions on what to do to fix it.

We used to do the following (assuming a 7am wake up but more often it is 6:30 or 6:45 so it all gets adjusted accordingly)

7 BF
9 Breakfast
9:30 nap
11 BF (sometimes 11:30 if he took a longer am nap)
1 lunch
2:30 nap
4 BF
5:30/6 dinner
6:30 bath, massage, jammies
7 BF bed

He was consistantly awake for 2.5, then 3.5 and then 3 hours for a total of 9 hours a day of awake time. Is this awake time appropriate for 9 month old or should I be giving him more awake time in the morning? I tried the past couple of days to give him 3 hours awake in the morning but it has pushed our first nap to finish at 12:30 which pushes the rest of the day waaaay out!

He was waking up at night frequently and I was nursing then too.

I looked at the sample routines for 9 months but there were not very many so I thought I'd ask if anyone else has some suggestions. Today my day went like this so far....

7:15 BF
9:15 Breakfast
10:10 asleep (started to put him down at 9:45)
12:30 BF
2:30 Lunch
4:30 asleep (started to put him down at 3:45)

Thanks so much in advance for your help!

Jude

Jude -
At 9/10 months out routine looked like:
7 wake/bottle
8 breakfast
10 sleep
11 wake
12 lunch
100 bottle
200 nap
400 wake
500 dinner
700 bottle/bed

Does that help?

Our 9 mo old routine looks like this...she typically needs 3+ hrs of A time.
7 - wake, bf
8 - breakfast
10 - nap
11 - wake, bf
1230 - lunch
2 - nap
3 - wake, bf
5 - dinner
730 - bedtime, bf

I've found that she sometimes acts tired and crabby when she's actually bored. I can't really rely on cues as much anymore! Hope that helps!

Our 9 month schedule looks something like this i have her on 830-830 EASY usually with 3 + A time

830 -Wake and Eat
930 breakfast
1130 Nap 1.5 hrs
100 EAt
200 Lunch
400 nap 1.5 hrs
530 Eat
630 Dinner
bath, bottle, cuddle time starting at 830 bed 900

ive noticed that she needs a longer A time at night to be tired enough to go to sleep and stay asleep.

Ainslee was rocked or fed to sleep up until a month ago.. I was tired of waking up 3-4 times a night... WE decided not to rock or feed to sleep and one night we went thru our bedtime routine, i put her in her bed and left the room, she talked to herself for 20 mins and went to sleep... Now I say its time for bed and she lays her head on her blanket, I put her in the bed and she rolls over and falls asleep in < 5 mins.... Ainslee was a VERY touchy baby but i really underestimated her and she does great for naps and bedtime.... It can happen, it just takes consistency and patience.

Dear ladies

Thank you so much for responding. Do you think I should wake him up from his naps to get us back on track?

The irony is that I am trying to extend his morning awake time from 2.5 to 3 hours but I just realized that instead of making the whole day 3-3-3 it has actually reversed our days as now we are probably more like 3-3-2.75 b/c he wakes so late in the afternoon (5:15 yesterday) and was asleep by 8 (started bedtime routine around 7ish as earlier would probably have mean no sleep).

Thanks in advance! :)

I do wake my DD from her naps. If he is doing 3 hours of A time and you plan for in bed by 8, don't let him sleep any later than 5. If in bed by seven, wake by 4. I find if I don't wake Abby she will sleep all day and want to party late into the evening, and mommy needs some down time then!

Thanks Holly. I actually prefer the 7pm bedtime but all these late naps have pushed it to 8 the past two days. I got him to go to sleep at 9:40 today (closer to the usual time) but he only had 2.75 hours of awake time. I will wake him at 11 ish if he doesn't do so by himself to try to get us back on track.
