When to feed?
« on: August 04, 2007, 19:33:06 pm »
I bf but have been giving dd a ff before bedtime cause it ties her over longer and cause she gets super fussy in the evening and won't nurse. I have been giving her the bottle around 6:45pm and then she's been going to sleep around 7:30pm. I either have to rock her a bit to sleep or sometimes nurse her for a few minutes. Should I give her the bottle at 7:30ish instead of 6:45? She's a tummy sleeper who is also gassy, so my only concern is that it might bother her stomach.

Does she sleep most of the night?   How often does she eat? Is she maybe ready to go to sleep earlier and is overtired by  7:30.  have you tried putting her down earlier, seeing if that makes her go to sleep easier.  I know it can be really frustrating, well help however we can.  Christie

She usually will sleep 6-7 hours and then wake for a feed. I nurse her then. She will only sleep 3-4 hours after that. I believe it's cause her tummy hurts. I think she still has a pretty immature digestive system. No matter what I cut out of my diet, her stomach still bothers her. It usually takes her 45 minutes to an hour (sometimes) to fall back asleep after that early morning feed. She just can't get comfy.
Sometimes she is definetly ready for an earlier bedtime than 7:30. She usually doesn't nap past 4 or 4:30, so by 6:30 she usually starts getting fussy. That's when I give her the bottle, let her tummy rest, bath, and then bed. Maybe I should be shotting for a 7pm bedtime. I just am worried she'll wake at 5am and insist on getting up. She doesn't usually sleep for 12 hours yet. It's mostly 10-11.

If she is fussing earlier, I would definitely aim for an earlier bedtime.  Sometimes an overtired lo will actually sleep less than a lo that goes to bed earlier.

Have you tried giving her any gas drops for her tummy?
