constant nap refusal
« on: August 04, 2007, 19:05:21 pm »
My 10 month old son has been a textbook baby and has always slept well. He is still sleeping well at night but is refusing to nap during the day. When I see that he is tired I put him in his cot and he immediately rolls over and sits up - if left he begins to get very upset. However, he is tired as if we go out in his buggie or car he falls asleep for 1 1/2 hours. We have the same problem at his afternoon nap.

This is how is day looks

7.00 wake
7.30 breakfast
9.30 - 10.30 nap
12.00 lunch
1.00 - 2.30 nap
7.00 bed

I have read the relevant pages and postings but he does not seem to quite tick all the right boxes for the advice. Should I delay his morning nap or just wait until after his lunch?

When we transitioned to one nap I always gave him a snack around 11:00 and then put him down for nap at about 11:30.  He would sleep about 2 hrs and then we would have lunch.  Once he got older and the nap moved back to about 12:30-1:00pm then we started giving lunch before nap.  It's always tricky to transition at first.

Good luck

I don't think he is ready for 1 nap (not yet ;)) but he could do with some more A time in the morning & afternoon. Most can handle 3hrs in the morning & 3.5 in the afternoon & before bedtime. Try something like this:

7am, - wakes
10-11am - morning nap
1:30-3ish - afternoon nap
7 - bed

Also if he is starting to refuse the afternoon nap, you could try & cut the morning nap down to 45mins.....
