Comfort Milk- Very runny bottom and during the night??

Anyone having the same trouble?  My lo is 17 weeks and has been on the cow and gate  comfort formula since four weeks old..........his poo has always been very smelly and very runny and even different colours! Otherwise he is very content on the milk no wind or sickness or tummy ache- just a very active system which disturbs his sleep!
I am beginning to be concerned as he always wakes due to pooing in the night between 4-5am- then because he is wide awake and had nappy changed he then needs a feed! (There have been the rare occasion when he has woken at 7am- but that also is due to a poo!)

Health visitor just advised me to try him on normal cow and gate which i think is called premium to see if it settles the system? (also am going abroad and taking cartons and getting sleep would be great!

Hi there

Cow and Gate comfort milk has low lactose, I had the same thing with my little man when he was on it.  My HV said it is normal, it makes the babies poo smell yes, and be more runny due to the lower lactose content.  Not 100% sure why, but I had the same thing when colief drops were added to the normal milk, as that also breaks the lactose down (says even on the box that poo may become the same consistancy as a breastfed babies).  Trying him on another milk may clear up the runny poo, in fact it should do, and he is past the age of colic so hopefully the normal cow and gate shouldn't give him belly ache. My DD is 7 months and still poos in the night so I feel your pain lol!

Oh yeah, ds had Comfort too and the nappies were real stinkers - and when he honked it went EVERYWHERE!!!!

But to me it was a small price to pay after he had colic and reflux so bad...mind you I would rather poke my eyes out with cocktail sticks than have him go through that again!!!!

I so agree with Linfran...

I continues using Comfort with Woo until he was 1.. and wouldnt have used anything else.. despite the eggy sometimes green poo.. which occasionally exploded all up his back and down his legs lol..

If you do decide to go back to a diff formula.. go slowly.. there is quite a big difference between comfort and other formulas xx

Thanks............have bought the comfort premium cartons and am going to transfer slowly starting with just one feed then 2 etc etc..........Again hope i dont upset his tummy- but at the same time really want him to sleep through and not be disturbed by his pooing!!!
