signs of some gas problems?
« on: August 19, 2007, 12:01:53 pm »
ok, of course during the day it appears easier and she wants to sleep for longer stretches. I even have to sometimes wake her during the day as she draws closer to the 3 hour mark and so I just sit her up and start feeding her. I just would like to know if you think I should be doing anything different.

At night, though she seems more fussy. Last night I was up from 12:30am to 2:30am pretty much straight in addition to many other times through out the night.  Don't get me wrong, it's not like she's SCREAMING in pain. Sometimes it's a harder cry and other times it's a lot of little crying/fussying with grunts and moans ect. It gets to the point where we just let her sleep on our chests or next to us in the bed because I'm so tired. I usually have to do this myself, but DH did help a little last night.

I think the problem is her burping. I reallllly have a hard time getting her to burp sometimes. but, than again she does burp other times and still acts like this. I try to burp her for a LONG time. I mean how long can I sit there and burp her. Than she wants to wake up anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes after she's done eating and spend some time fussing and eventually or hopefully a burp will come out as you continue to work on burping. If it continues, than it's a vicious cycle because it brings us to the point of needing to be FED again or closer to that point.

It's very challenging trying to figure out if she's fussy/gassy or if she wants to eat again. I try giving paci, but she doesn't want it or only wants it for a very small while. Here is her recent schedule. Please let me know if any of the information I've giving plus her schedule looks normal for the most part and if there is anything I should be doing differently.

Feeding times take anywhere between 15 minutes and 35 minutes. Longer of course with all the work I have to do trying to get her to burp.

9:30am - 1.25oz
12:15pm - 1.75oz
2:40pm - 2.5oz
5:10pm - 2oz
8:00pm - 2oz
10pm - 2oz
12:35am - 2.5 oz
appeared to be mostly UP or kept getting rather fussy until next feed which I gave in to at
2:25am - 1 oz
5am - 2.5 oz. Didn't burp after 1oz, so I kept going. Ended up burping and doing a BIG!! spit up after she ate another oz. She does occasionally have spit up problems, but nothing too serious I don't think.
7:30am - A tad bit over 2 oz.

She's sleeping soundly now. I'm guessing she'll sleep good now since it's morning and luck would just have it "LOL".

She's around 6lbs 14oz and was born August 13th

Hi there, have you tried some gas drops? Infacol (if you are UK) are good, but have to be given at every feed as have accumulative (sp?) effect, gripe water etc...
Also I used to give my DD tummy massages, also lay her on her back on my legs and bicycle the legs to get wind moving.  Have you tried a comfort milk? Cow and Gate do a good one, just called comfort milk, has less lactose in it, and is good for colicky babies. Finally, we switched to Dr Browns bottles which helped (and still do at 7 1/2 months old), expensive and fiddly but worth it.  Oh yeah and Colief drops in the milk helped with the colic too, some docs will prescribe

hope this is of some help.

noah was having gas once a day for about 3days in a row. We came to the conclusion that it was on days that we fed him a bottle at a 2hr interval instead of his 3hr feed. What  i was finding was if he ate his 3oz and then slept 3.5 to 4hrs he would wake hungry and so I would feed him when he woke(3oz) but then 2hrs later he was hungry again so I would give him another bottle. On these daysss he would wake screaming in pain about 1 hr after that second bottle. So, now what I do is 3oz every 3hrs. if he sleeps past his 3hr mark then the next bottle I'll give him 3.5 to 4oz. it seems to be working really well as he hasent had the bad gas in a few days.i also have been trying to wake him during the day to keep him on schedule now.
HTH- I know shes alot tinyer then Noah and alot newer :) But pretty soon she will eat more at each feed and it will start to get easier for you. Big hugs to you :-* Tracey

My mom had to take chaunda for the day yesterday. I had to go look at some land with DH 2 hours away.
She somehow got her to eat 3oz every 3 hours. She did say she wanted to eat the 2 1/2 hour mark and somehow got her to wait.

WELL!!!! I can't do it! It's unforunately too, because I think eventually it would be better for it to be spaced out more. She's showing some signs of either gas or reflux, it's hard to tell.

She did sleep one long stretch last night though.
But this morning, I feed her at 7:30am, which was 7.25oz
Than I had to feed her a gain at 9:50am and she would only take 1.5oz. Prior to that, she was crying and it progressively got worse. I tried paci, soothing, burping ect. Finally I gave into the bottle. Now I'm hoping I"m going into the cycle again since 1.5oz probably won't hold her over for too long
