Time Chage Question
« on: August 21, 2007, 16:56:49 pm »
I know it's early but I had a question about the time change.

IN Tracy's book it states that when 'falling back' you keep them up one extra hour and they will then sleep in.  Well, my daughter no matter what will wake up right around 6am.  If she put down late, early, right on time....if she's overtired, undertired, just right....no matter what...up at the butt crack of dawn.   :P  ;D

How in the world do I get her to sleep in so that our days don't start at 5am once the time change occurs in October, as 6am is early enough.

Just wondering if anyone else has a lo like I do and how they worked out the time changes.

We may also be moving 3 hours eastward in October so that may be our solution as I am sure that will throw her off even more, but that's another post all in itself  ;)

Thanks.
Melissa

With Claire I just kept her up a little, like 15 minutes later each night for a couple of nights.  When she woke at the normal time I went in and told her is wasn't time to get up. I treated that wake as a night waking, by doing pd, and it ironed out after a week.

The thing with Grace is, there is no putting her back to sleep.  Once she's up, she's up.  We have never been able to put her back down after about the age of 3/4 months.  She is a very independent baby and even if she's only gotten 5 minutes of sleep and something has woken her we are done for.  Interesting child, huh?  ;D

Thank you for the advice though.  I guess it won't hurt to try, right?  :D

Melissa,

Jalyn has had a really hard time going back to sleep in the past.  It's hard, but if she wakes before 7, I wi/wo with her until it is 7... some days I keep going b/c I know she is so tired.  She usually ends up falling asleep again, and even if it's only for 5 more minutes, I win  ;)  It's tiring on me as well, but she fights less now than she did when we first started.  I bet she would "get it" after a couple mornings  :-*

Are you using wi/wo because she is crying?

Grace, when she wakes, just lays quietly in her crib until I come in and get her 30-45 minutes later  ;) :)...no crying/fussing.  So wi/wo really wouldn't work, correct?  I have never been able to use wi/wo previously because it has only made things worse.  She does better if we just aren't there, iykwim so I am not sure of the exact 'rules' of wi/wo and we you should/shouldn't use it.

Thanks so much.  :-*

;D ;D ;D LOL

Yeah, Grace is really good about that, but on the down side, like I mentioned, we have never been able to put her back down....she's always all smiles and "Hi's"  ;D

Thanks again.

Melissa, both my girls are early risers. I would suggest moving her day starting from nap (&subsequently bedtime) rather than keeping her up later at night (hope that makes sence). Last time I did this, it took Isabella about 4 days before she woke at 6am. So keep insisting & she should take to the new changes in a few days.

and i thought i was the only one already worried about the time change... ;)

well, i can say that gianna has always adjusted herself but i still get stressed about it!!  the fact that there is less daylight (darker earlier and stays darker later in the morning) is supposed to help.

maybe a few weeks (or month) before, start gradually putting her naps/bedtime later in 15 min increments.  she will probly not immediately start sleeping in...i know gianna never did.  she has a strong body clock.  but she will eventually adjust....however, i always start early in trying to introduce the new time so that hopefully by the time the clocks are actually rolled back, the girls' body clocks are too!!

it totally stresses me out everytime though!  i am considering moving to a state where the don't do time changes...arizona sounds nice.  :P

Stacy,
Caleb sounds a bit like Grace
During the last time change we were so excited because we thought for sure with moving ahead one hour she would be up until 7 and waking up at 7. Well, after one day of that she moved back to waking up at 6am  ::)

LindseyB:LOL re: moving to a non-time changing state.

Yeah, I won't worry too much.  I know it will all work out and she always seems to surprise me.  :D

Again, thank you for all your advice everyone.  It was a huge help.
