10 months old - weaning time or ?
« on: August 15, 2007, 21:43:33 pm »
Hello,
My little guy is 10 months old, walking with a pretty strong character to say the least!
In about 6 weeks, I will go back to work and am not sure how to start weaning him or what he needs:
At the moment, he is BF 3 times a day, has 3 solid meals a day with 2 small snacks. I don't supplement with formula and he doesn't have any dairy yet (allergies in the family).
When I will go to work, I am thinking of BF him twice daily (morning and evening). My question is: is it enough for him or does he need bottles (or sippy cup) of formula?
He drinks a bit of water from a cup, but not much, but he eats lots of fruits.
I guess, I still could BF him a third time, right after work, but is it necessary at one year old?

Thank so so much for your advices!
Del.

Hi Del,

Sounds like things are going really well for you.  At 12 months 2 bfs a day is perfect (some do more, but not necessary at all).

Proud to have breastfed for a combined total of 35 months

Bf-ing twice a day sounds fine.  My 13 month old BFs 2-3 times on days I work and I send one bottle of expressed milk to daycare, which he sometimes takes from the bottle and sometimes takes in a sippy.  Good luck with returning to work!!!  It's hard but you can do it!
