18months old and talking for 2hrs in the middle of the night!
« on: August 16, 2007, 14:44:06 pm »
need some help!
we are totally off track right now due to 2hr night talking sessions!

our typical routine was:
wake 6:30ish
nap 11:45/12-2/2:15---2hrs or so, always woke if it was getting to be 2.25, it was closer to 1.5 then bed was 20min or so earlier
bed at 7:10---used to be asleep by 7:15
lately has been in bed for 7pm because he is taking 30min to fall asleep and falling asleep closer to 7:30

so I am aiming for about 13hrs or so.

in the last 2 weeks , he has been awake in the night off and on, usuallly for about 2hrs, just talking, not crying, I never have to go in.
he then sleeps past his normal wake-up time til 7:30 or 7:45, but quite often he is still only getting 10hrs these nights!
this then throws off the nap time slightly and I try to not let it push bedtime back, so I wake from naps if it is past 2:15/2:30

very frustrating to awake time in the middle of the night. I also think he is cutting a 2nd year molar and mybe this has an effect

Has he always needed more or less sleep than average?

I think teeth are probably to blame.  Claire has the 2nd year molars coming in and they seem to be something she wants to play with.   ::)  The other night I heard her up for a while and I went in and said "night night' and she said "no, teeth."  I left and she was awake for another 20 min, not crying but I think playing with her new teeth.   ???

I would say keep aiming for the 13 hours and hope the teeth break through soon.

thanks, he has always needed a little less then average. I am hopeing it is the teeth too, but boy are they ever messing with our rouitne. he is spending sooo much time in his crib---just not necessarily sleeping.

I am quite worried about him getting overtired as I am finding it difficult to fit in a good nap after a late wake (from 2hr night play session)

like last night:
he was asleep about 7:10pm
woke from 3:30-5:30
then slept til 8

well he wasn't tired enough at normal nap time of 12
so I put him down at 12:30
he was asleep about 12:45 but woke at 2pm (I think from shorter morning A time)
did fine this afternoon, was tired during windown and in crib for 7pm---but he is not sleeping yet.

yup thanks Stacy,
last night I worked til midnight, so honestly I woke when he woke at 8am, (after being awake from 3-6am)but will keep what you said in mind.

I think I will pick 7am, if he is awake in the night, and then we have time for a 2hr nap at 12:15 or so.
he did ok tonight, was in bed for 7pm and asleep about 20min later.

I agree with Stacy. I allow Claire to sleep in a bit some days but if she isn't up by 8 I encourage her little but out of bed.

better, thanks Layla, just not wanting to jinx it, LOL, so I will spare you the details! I have given Advil the last two nights which has made a difference (I think)!

ok, so I need help again!

Noah is definately OT.
we have been away for the week to BC and of course Noah just did not sleep that well at night time. Naps were ok. that being said, travelling there and back (7hrs each way) he did not nap great at all. anyways he has just been sleep deprived overall.

with 2 45min car naps yesterday, we did an earlier bedtime, but we did have a 1.5hr NW,
so woke today at 7:15am instead of the typical 6:30am or so

then I am so confused as to when to do the nap when they are OT and having NW. and then sleeping past there normal wake time even by 30min or so. today I tried 5hrs of A time, so nap at 12, well maybe this was too much as he jumped and played in his crib, mixed in with a lot of complaining, and one "its nap time Noah".
he was actually yawning quite a bit at 10:30am, so I wonder if I missed the window.

When Claire is overtired I give her 1/2 hour less A time before nap and after nap. So if she normally has 5 hours A time I put her down for her nap at 4.5 hours and then bedtime ends up being 1 hour earlier.  Make sense?  On those days we do extra long windown after a good hard play outside so I can tire her out but get her down easier.
