16 month old waking early
« on: August 29, 2007, 17:58:10 pm »
We have been very blessed with our 16 month old son and his night sleeping patterns so far.  We started the EASY method at 7 weeks and he did fantastic!  He goes to sleep on his own - he actually wants to sleep in his crib!  He goes to bed around 7:15 - 7:30 and had been getting up between 6-6:30.  He has 1 nap a day from 11:30 - 1:30.  This was working great for us since my husband and I both work.  THe past week and a half, he has started waking up at 5:00 crying for MaMa or DaDa (he always cries when he wakes up no matter how much sleep he gets).  I know he is still tired, b/c if I do take him out of bed he will either fall asleep on me, or be very very groggy.

I've been trying to put him back down, tell him it is still night night, bet he will only sleep for another few minutes if we're lucky.  Any help anyone has would be appreciated!!

Hey there - I think that bedtime is a little too late if his nap ends at 1:30. If he woke at 6-6.30am he really needs to be in bed by 6.30 so that he is asleep by 7ish & gets 11hrs at night.

Aim for something like this:

6-6.30 - wake up
11:30-1:30 - nap
6:30-7pm - bedtime

Now that he is waking at 5 in the morning, I would be doing a nap at 11 (no later) & a bedtime 6pm to give him a chance to catch up on sleep. In about 3 days or so you could start pushing his nap to 11.30 again with a slightly later bedtime & he should be waking up a little later as well.

Let me know how you go
