short naps after 2 to 1 switch (15 month old)
« on: August 19, 2007, 12:14:32 pm »
We have completed the 2 to 1 nap a few of months ago, but the problem is that she still will only sleep for exactly 1 hour 15 mins. This means she has to go to bed very early and then wakes early.

6.45 wakes
11.45 nap till 1pm
6.30pm bed

She'll stay awake till 6.45pm sometimes, but gets very cranky.
I was hoping the short naps would gradually get longer once the 1 nap a day had been established. She woke very early 1 day last week due to teething, so I tried a 2 nap day because she'd missed some her night sleep.Anyway, she took the am nap very well, but wouldn't sleep at all that pm, so we had very cranky pm and very early bed.

Hmm
normally its the timing of the nap that causes the problem but it seems spot on to me ???
since she transitioned a couple of months ago i'm just wondering if she needs just a little more awake time.you could try adding 15 mins gradually and see if that makes a difference.

I wanted to check out your post because I fear that is what is going to happen to us with the switch too... Just like the PP my first reaction was, try to move it slowly to 5.5A time?  Try 12pm tomorrow maybe and then slowly work to like 12:30?  That will also solve your earlier bedtime??  just thoughts, I am no expert in this category!

Yesterday, she fell asleep for about 10-15 mins in her buggy during her mid morning walk, so she was put down for her nap at 12.30pm and actually fell asleep at 1pm.It was good because she slept for an hour and half ; 15 mins longer than usual.Because of her later nap, I put her to bed that n ight at 7.15pm, but she didn't fall asleep till about 8pm.She still woke early this morning at 6.45am, so has had less sleep during the night than normal.
Today, she was in bed for her nap at 12 noon and fell asleep at 12.15pm, then only slept for an hour and 5 mins.Tonight I put her to bed at 7pm as she was tired and cranky from 6pm onwards.
It seems that the later nap worked yesterday, but was that because she had a very small catnap in her buggy during the morning? Was todays nap too short because it was earlier than yesterdays?I'm confused ???

well most toddlers of that age (if i remember correctly) average 13-14hrs.thats inc their nap.so although she is having a short nap she was averaging over a 12 hr night.
when she had a longer nap it took away from her night.what is she normally like when she wakes up from her naps?

Shes usually OK when she wakes from her nap.
Today, she had an hour & a half nap after falling asleep at 12.30pm.Maybe shes doing OK then. Its just that I've read that they should take a 2 hour nap at this age, so I though her routine was wrong. But when you add all her sleep together, its usually 13 or so hours so maybe I'll keep things as they are for now.

I don't think there is a set amt of time for their nap is just generally most take a 2hr nap at that age.however most would also be having an 11hr night.so enjoy your longer nights :-* :-*

As long as she's not too cranky, then I think she's doing great!
