Guess what Holden did today?
« on: September 26, 2007, 20:27:23 pm »
Just as we get over our sleep issues Holden decides to learn how to fall out of his crib. He's okay but I feel like crying. Having to train him in the toddler bed and now it's like he's all grown up. I think it's too early for this. What am I going to do?  ??? :'(

First I would wait and see if he does it again. Put some padding down.  DS has climbed out a couple of times but has not made it a habit.

Second, depends on whether or not you are ready to move to bbb.  You could get a crib tent.  I did not plan on moving ds until 2 1/2 -3 so if he kept climbing out I was going to get the tent.  But since he is 30 mo now i would probably make the move.

Last, he will always be your baby  :)

Thanks for the great ideas :) DH just put the toddler bed together and Holden climbed up on it and said nite-nite.  :( I will look into the crib tent and put some pillows on the floor tonight.

Forgot to add, if you don't usually close his door at night, you may want to put up a gate so he can't wonder around the house if he does climb out tonight.  Do you have a monitor so you can hear him?  Also, check over his room a little and make sure if he gets out there is nothing you don't mind him getting into.

Good Luck!

Lisa, Alex did this, we got a crib tent (went to great lengths, can't get them in the UK so DH got a colleague to bring one from the states) and we never got to use it as it didn't happen again.  I do agree that putting something soft to break a fall though, just in case.
Great advice from Wilsmom.

Yeah, they are kind of expensive, that's why when ds climbed out I just waited to see if he would do it again.  On the other hand, you kind of want it there right away if you need it, so it is hard to decide.  But if ds was any younger I would do the tent.  We moved dd when she was just under two and it was not an easy transition lol!  Some transition really easy, problem is you don't know until you are in it knee deep and really need to just not look back.  DS tries to climb in also.  I know he could get out easily if he wanted, but all is good stuff is in the crib so I guess he would just rather be in there lol!  I am NOT looking forward to paci weaning time (he only gets it at night - doesn't even use it for naps at the babysitters).  I am such a procrastinator with #2 lol!
