My daughter is 4 months old.  I've read the BW books, the FAQs and Tracy's sleep interviews.  From what I've read, my DD should be transitioning to a 4 hour routine now.  But she cannot stay up longer than an hour and 15 minutes at a time, sometimes only an hour.  I know this is not normal, its like she's a newborn.  I thought by now she would have longer periods of wakefulness.  But she gets so cranky if I try to keep her up longer, then she becomes overtired and overstimulated and only naps for 30 minutes.  So I have to put her down by an hour and 15 minutes.  She is going through the 45 minute nap monster right now (I'm soothing with my hand and holding her joints down for the jolts to help her extend her naps but she rarely falls back to sleep.), so I wonder if that has anything to do with it?  She does sleep 12 hours at night.

What am I doing wrong? When is she going to be able stay awake for longer?

Thanks for your advice.

Hi Stacy!  Don't worry..I don't think you are doing anything wrong.  SOme babies just aren't able to handle extended A times.  If you'd like to try extending them, i would do it 5 minutes at a time to make sure she doesn't get over tired.  The 45 minute nap monster really is a monster isn't it??
