Does Napping EVER get easier?
« on: September 14, 2007, 01:55:35 am »
My now 4mth old DD has never liked taking naps. Im assuming that there are many other babies out there feeling the same??? I have been trialling EASY now for at least 2mths and although we have made some progress, naps during the day still cause grief.

My routine looks like this:

6:30am - Wake/Feed
7:30/7:45am - First Nap (Lately catnapping)
10:00a.m- Feed
11:30/12:00a.m- Second Nap
2:00pm- Feed
4:00pm- Third Nap
5:30pm - Bath
6:00pm - Feed
6:30pm - Bed

*This routine used to work well and now we are lucky to even get close to the sleep patterns because she catnaps and throws the whole thing out of whack???  ??? I try to keep feed times the same (if possible) and work around the sleep when she catnaps.
* I try to look for tired signs, however sometimes you put her down at the right time and other times you miss the window??? Its always different.

Does napping ever get easier??? I feel like I spend everyday dealing with sleep issues???  ::)

HUGS!!  Good for you for sticking to it!!  I know how frustrating it can be.  And yes, it does get easier, but it could take until your lo is 6 months old for things to smooth out, however, there are things you can do in the meantime to help it along.  First, you might want to try extending A times.  A 4 month old should be able to stay awake for 1 hour and 45 minutes - 2 hours.  It looks like your ds is only staying awake for an hour or so in the morning.  You can start by adding maybe 10 minutes a A to the morning.  It may take a little time, but don't give up!!

Thanks I'll try that. Im thinking that she is catnapping in the morning because maybe she didnt have enough waketime before it? Someone always told me that they cant stay up as long in the mornings so I have always put her down earlier than usual???? I think I might trial the longer wake times and see if her napping improves.

Sounds like a plan!  Hope all goes well!  Just to add, my ds stays up longer in the morning. It is true that a lot of babies have a shorter A time in the morning, but this isn't always the case :)  It is certainly worth trying to extend.
