My DD will be 11 months next week.  Her routine is as follows:

7.00 to 7.30 - awake
8.00-8.15 - bottle
9.00 - cereal
10.30-10.45 - sleep (1 1/2 hours sometimes 2 hours)
12.30 - lunch
3.30 - 3.45 - nap (for no later than 5 p.m)
5 p.m - bottle
5.45 - dinner
7.15- 7.30 - bed.  Sleeps through.

Is there any way I could work out the p.m. nap a bit earlier.  She can go more than 3 hours activity time.  I don't think I could work out the morning nap earlier as don't think she would fall off to sleep if put down earlier1.  The past 3 days when putting down for the p.m. nap she, like yesterday for example just lay there kicking her legs up to 4.45 so it was too late for sleeping and I had to just bring DD downstairs.  Am not sure if we could do without p.m. nap (too soon yet?) but at bedtime cries some nights and other nights doesn't but can take sometimes around 40 minutes to get off to sleep though doesn't cry and sleeps through the night.

Also can I ask should I be giving solids before bottles now?

Thank u

Jo

Hi Jo

I think the only way you could put her down earlier is to shorten the am nap.i think one of the reasons it takes her a little while to settle at night is her pm nap ends fairly close to her bedtime and maybe shes not tired enough to go straight to sleep.
DDs naps at that age were 1hr AM and 1.5hrs PM.
Also at that age DD was having her solids before her btls (with the exception of the morning btl) and that was only because if she had her btls before solids she wouldn't eat anything ::)

Thank u.  I will do that try to shorten the a.m. nap so that p.m. one isn't as late.  I thought this was the way to go but I hate waking her.  Also thought that going down for the night just over 2 hours later meant she wasn't really tired enough.  So if I could keep the p.m. nap to wake up time around 4ish that would be better.  And will give dinner before bottle at teatime.  Thank u......

I agree, from 9 mons on ds morning nap was only 30 min, then 1.5-2 hr in the pm around 2pm.  So try 1 hr or even 45 min, I think this will help!  Good luck!

Another suggestion: if you wanted to try and push the am nap up just a bit, a friend of ours had some luck by gradually moving it earlier (though I think they were doing this for bedtime, and not for a nap).  For example, if nap is at 10:30am, you could try it at 10:20 or 10:25am for a day or two, then back to 10:10 or 10:15am the next couple days, and so on until you reach your goal time, whatever that is.  Maybe napping earlier (e.g. 10am) would have her naturally wake up sooner than 2 hours later, and allow you to more easily incorporate an earlier pm nap.
