14 weeks BF, can I start EASY?
« on: September 18, 2007, 14:55:13 pm »
Hi there,
My little boy is 14 weeks and exclusively breastfed. He refuses the bottle point blank, despite daily attempts. And we even tries the 24 hour cold turkey but he still wouldn't give in. I figure since it's only for the occassional feed I'm not going to make him ill, so am hoping to get him on an EASY routine instead, so at least we'll be able to plan some escape times around the feeding times!

He sleeps all night, ususally between 8p.m. and 9p.m. until between 7a.m. and 8a.m. the following morning. Feeds on awakening after a little chat and nappy change. Then it's over to him! Some days he sleeps after the morning feed for 2 hours, more days he's awake for ever.. Typically tho it's not easy to measure. Even his feeds can be between 2 and 4.5 hours apart.

Can anyone suggest a sample of the timings for a bf boy his age?
Would be greatly appreciated..

Loving the site btw... so much information... wish I'd discovered it sooner.

Of course you can start EASY  :)
Many BF mom's start EASY from day one as EASY is all about following your lo's cues while following a sequence of events that take place over and over through out the day.  At around 12 weeks most lo's eat every 3 hours. I wouldn't go more than 3.5 hours in between feeds (except at night) just yet as you want to make sure your lo is getting enough oz in during the day to help sustain him through out the night

Hi just to add to this I started DD at 15 weeks on EASY and she was exclusively BFd..it made our lives quite literally so much easier! I wish I'd known earlier, having been dutifully following the 'on-demand' advice and wondering why we still had no routine whatsoever and why i was trapped at home never knowing when a feed was due etc and also why we struggled so much with teaching sleep.
my DD is nearly 21 mths now and still loves her BF..many people are amazed to know we've followed a routine as long as we have, even with BF - so go for it, its well worth the effort
