screaming and crying while asleep (15 weeks)
« on: September 20, 2007, 16:28:35 pm »
My son who is 15 weeks has started screaming and crying during his second nap of the day.
He screams and cries really, really loud.  Louder than I have ever heard him cry while he is awake.  He does this for about 15/20 minutes (today a little longer) and then will go back to sleep for another 45 minutes or so.  This just started 4 days ago but has happened every day and always during the same nap.
If I pick him up of flip him over it does nothing he just keeps hollering with his eyes closed.  It's really starting to freak me out.  Anyone ever heard of this?  I call my friend and my husband so that they could hear it and neither of them could believe he was sleeping.

How far into the nap does this happen?

Today around the 45 minute mark.  I suspect the same the other days although I didn't pay that much attention.  I didn't realize at the time that it was going to become a reoccurring thing.

That's interesting that he isn't actually waking up.  My LO makes noise (not crying) at the 45 minute mark but he is awake.  Sometimes he can get himself back to sleep.  I don't think anything is wrong with your lo.  I am assuming he wakes up happy from his nap.  Tracy does say in her book that babies make a "phantom cry" while sleeping, so this is why we should not rush right in, because we may actually be waking them.  I would just keep going in and making sure he's OK, but try not to move him or wake him up.  Has he previously been a good napper?

Yeah this is a new thing, he used to nap great.  When he does wake up 45 minutes to an hour later he is all smiles.

Then I would say that this'll pass.  As long as it isn't disrupting his sleep I would think he'd "grow out of it" soon.
