This is what we have been doing the last few days as it doesn't matter how short the AM nap goes Leorah will often only sleep 40 mins in the PM and then want to go to bed at 5pm and so the circle begins again because she will sleep 13+ hours and not have enough sleep hours for naps. I have been putting her down 4 hours after wake up and she is sleeping 1hr10/20mins which is a big improvement and then she is having a 30-40 min PM nap which means she can go to bed nearer 7pm. I intend to keep pushing the AM nap towards 12 noon over time and when she drops the PM nap she can have an early night instead. I was just wondering if anyone has done this and found it to work?

Thanks you, Katt  :)

That was the way Tracey recommended and I say if it works for you then go with it! The reason many choose to do it the other way around is that they found that if their LO had a long am nap then it was hard to fit in a pm nap and hence cause OT by bedtime and NWs. You may find as time goes on that you hit the same problem so a short am nap might be better. For now, though, go with what is working best and reassess the situation if your LO starts to wake in the night or early in the morning.

We have always done a long AM nap and a short PM nap since going to 2 naps. It just works better for us, also makes our afternoons more flexible which is nice.

We are just beginning the transition to one nap and so far its going ok, it remains to be seen how it will all go though

Hi Katt,

I agree with pp.  You have to do what works for you and L.  Even though that method didn't work for us, You need to take L routine and personality into consideration-so go for it.. :-* :-*

That is how we did it before moving to 1 nap from about 9months till the transition at 11.5months. If you are both happy with it then that is fine.

Thank you all for the support  :-*

Wow Maisy you have had a nice, long run of two naps! What time and how long are your DD's naps now?

It has only been a few days but so far so good for us, no NWs and normal or later wake ups and DD shows OT almost immediately. She only did a 1 hour AM nap today though as I tried to get her nice and tired this morning and then didn't get home in time and she fell asleep in the pushchair while we were out after 3hrs 50, I couldn't get her to hold out any longer! Usually she would have woken soon after the motion stopped so it wasn't too bad after all. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that this continues to work.

Thanks again  :)

Thanks Elmarie  :)

Its all going very well but unfortunately L's cold has gone to her chest so a lot of her sleep is not very restful as she is coughing so much, she is still doing 12 hour nights though so I will just watch her carefully in case she needs to nap earlier.

I hope you and C are doing well  :-* :-*
