2yo waking at 6:15 every morning.... sleep to 7am... please
« on: October 07, 2007, 16:48:40 pm »
Girls,

Can anyone help me?

My 2 year old is waking at 6:15am every morning crying. We need him to sleep until 7am. (I have a 4.5 month old that needs to sleep until 7am and our 2yo is waking him up most mornings.

What are the first steps we can take?

Normally, Cory naps around 12:00/12:30pm for 1.5 to 2 hours and goes to bed at 8pm.

What else do I need to let you know?

It has only been in the last 2 months that he has started waking really early. Developmentally, language is rising rapidly.... but I don't think that's it... I could be wrong! Also potty training.....

Are his naps too short, wrong time of day, bed time too late?

(Wind down.... dim lights, brush teeth, use the potty, read, into his sleeping bag, into crib, rain forest music box)

When he wakes is he still tired or ready to get up?  If he is still tired I would put him to bed a little earlier, like 7:30.  In the mean time you can put some sort of white noise in the baby's room to help drown out the 2 year olds crying.

When he wakes at 6:15... he is very cranky.....
Earlier bedtime needed? If he goes to bed at 7:30... how long should his nap be? Is 2 hrs too long?

How is he when he goes to bed?  is he tired and falls asleep straight away?  If so then an earlier bedtime is probably needed.

Yes, I think he does fall asleep right away... is within 10 minutes considered right away?

I would try bedtime half an hour earlier and see if it helps.  Keep his nap as it is for now and see how things go with an earlier bedtime, but at this age sometimes the nap does interfere with night time sleep so you might think it necessary to shorten it, although as he is tired when he gets to bed he must be needing it still.
(does all that make sense ???)
