14month old gone badly off track!
« on: October 08, 2007, 11:48:16 am »
Please can anyone help me? My LO is badly teething at the moment, for the past 3 weeks has slept very badly at night- last night being the worst, put him to bed at 6.15pm ut did not get to sleep until 8pm (very unusual!) then awake in the night for 2 hours of crying & in pain.
He woke crying at 6am this wmorning and was awake for the day.

He has normally been having his nap at 11.30-11.45 for anything from 1.5 to 3 hours. But has now started with 45min naps again!!!! I am unsure of this is because he is OT, or wether it is time to start extending his A time for a little bit longer. He wkes from the 45mins very upset.

I am going to go for an early bed of 5.30pm tonight, but any help & suggestions on both the teething & 45min naps would be much appreciated! We were doing so well but have gone so badly off track now!
Thanks
Jxx  :'(

I would try increasing A time rather than going for an earlier bed .If he's taking longer to fall asleep at night time it may be that he's not tired enough ,5.30pm bed is very early .

Oh, I was going to do early bedtime just tonight to catch up on the over-tiredness of bad sleep last night and only 45min nap today. Is this not a good idea?

He usually falls asleep very easily at night with his usual bed time of 6.30-7pm, but last night had bad teething pain, which is why he took so long to get to sleep.

Ok, tomorrow I will try longer A time then.
Thanks
Jxx

Hi Jodie,
I would go with an earlier bedtime tonight and try the longer A time tomorrow but just watch his cues.I think his teething probably has alot to do with his waking and taking along time to settle if he's in pain, then it's going to be difficult for him to get to sleep if he's in discomfort.Try the teething powders/calpol whatever teething remedies you use before bedtime and naps if you need to and see if it helps. He'll be very overtired by bedtime if only had a 45 min nap,so you might have to go for a 5:30/6:00 bedtime.Thats my advice anyway, hope it helps?

I will also go for an earlier bedtime if lo's naps and night was bad.  My DD had a bad day yesterday, only slept 30min for nap and couldn't extend it.  She slept 12 1/2h instead of her 11.5-12h.  They seem to catch up if you put them to bed earlier.  I will also give pain meds as suggested by pp....

Thanks ladies, will go for 5.30pm bed then tonight I think & definitely try for longer A time tomorrow for his nap. Yep, will give some meds tonight before bed too, so hopefully we will all get a more restful nights sleep- I am struggling to keep my eyes open at the moment!!
Thanks, I will let you know how we get on.

Well, last night was pretty bad again- Put him down for bed at 5.30pm & he went straight to sleep. He woke at 3.30pm for 1.5hours of crying! He then woke for the day at 7am. I am putting it down to teething and very over-tired from 3x 45min naps over the last 3 days!

But, however, I put him down a bit later for his nap at 12pm, after a little chatting he went off to sleep at 12.15pm, so as we speak, he has been asleep for nearly 2.5hours! Whoo hoo- thanks for the suggestions of longer A time- fingers crossed this will continue to work & our nights will start getting better again!
I'll let you know more tomorrow!
Thanks again
Jxx
