joining the "night terror" families :( :(
« on: October 10, 2007, 21:12:41 pm »
DH and I think Isabella is suffering from night terrors. It's very much apparent after last nights episode. She went down at 8pm. At 10:15, we could hear her kicking the mattress in the crib. A few minutes later she was moaning and crying. A few minutes after that she was screaming, kicking, flaring around and still asleep. Sound like classic night terrors to you? I thought so.

Advice from "night terror" expert moms please. I'm so sad for my little girl. She's never been a good sleeper but since hitting 2 it's gone downhill bad.

Thanks for the advice ladies.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh big hugs...and I'm sorry, no advice to give...experts say that night terrors are not the same as nightmares...so there's really no controllable way of dealing with them (ie// no tv, not too full etc)

I do know that "trying" to wake them can make it worse and that it is liable to pass quicker if left to run its course...

I'm sorry, it is so hard to watch our LO's struggle...I'm praying that it passes for you....my niece suffered from them for about a year between 2.5 and 3.5...my DS is currently avg. one episode every 3 or so nights a week....but his pass very quickly, (my nieces lasted close to 10 mins....)

again big hugs! :-*

Linda, I just posted on another thread about night terrors. I am definitely no expert on this.... never had anything like that happen to my girls (well not yet). From what I've read so far... they don't remember anything that occurs during an episode & as a parent you should stand back & let the episode run its course. Only interfere if there is chance she might hurt herself...

Heres the other post https://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=104527.0

This is the last thing you need.... massive {{{{{HUGS}}}}} to you :-* :-* :-*

Thank you! From what I read the night terrors are worse when the children are over tired. Tonight we put her to bed an hour earlier. We'll see if this helps!

Oh good.... from what Ive read they are more prone to NT's when they are overtired as well

On a side note... do you teach primary or secondary. Both my parents are teachers & I really want to be one as well (it must be in my blood). Just have 1yr of DipEd to do & I'm there ;D

Riley has had one episode of NT and it did happen when she was really over tired. As all PP have said there's no harm to your lo and they don't remember any of it. In a way that's much better than a nightmare which they do remember.

The biggest problem is safety when they are thrashing around. We were told that all you need to do is make sure they are safe, don't attempt to wake them and just wait it out.
