could it be night terrors?
« on: October 16, 2007, 08:30:12 am »
my almost 10 months old has just started sleeping through a few weeks ago. Now he's started waking again but this time its different.Last night for instance he woke up 4 or 5 times in the night, screams a blood curling scream - imagine your LO traps their fingers in the door type scream, and then goes straight back to sleep within a minute or so. On the 5th ish time I had to go into him as he wasn't settling himself and he was just staring past me, I stoked his face but this didn't have any effect on him. It was only when I got him out of bed he calmed down, coincidentally as he woke up more? Is he too young for terrors? Is this what terrors are like? if so, is there anything I can do? We were just getting used to sleep as well  ::)

Mella, he's not too young for night terrors.... when do these happen? NIght terrors are usually when the baby is in deep sleep which is at the start of the night (the first 2 or 3 hours). They also tend to happen more often in a baby that is overtired or where schedules are irratic.

Not much you can do unfortunately other than let the episode run its course.

What does his routine look like?

we're doing OK, he's eating really well, crawling at the speed of light now :o they only started about a week or so ago. They are different from the night wakes we used to have. The screams are horrible, the first time I heard it I thought he'd fallen out of his cot or something. schedule is something like
wake 7.30am, bottle and breakfast, play until 9.30-10am
nap until 11.30, solids at 12  noon play or walk etc until 1.30-2pm
nap until 3-3.30pm, bottle, solids at 4-4.30 pm,play until 6pm.
bath, quiet play on our bed, bottle and bed usually by 7, 7.30 latest.
I've tried extending his awake time in the day, but this seems to be how he likes it at the minute.
