One year old suddenly waking at night
« on: October 27, 2007, 14:48:10 pm »
Hope someone can offer some adivice as am at a loss what to do. My one year old DS has slept through the night indapendantly since 4 months old. For the past 2 weeks his night sleeping has been progressively getting worse - last night he was awake at 1:30am, 2:30am for an hour and 5am for 30 mins.....he is not crying - just wide awake, chatting or shouting.

I am shattered - I cannot sleep when he's wide awake like this.

He has been late to reach his milestones - only rolled over at 8 mpnths and is currently on the brink of crawling..........but everytime I put him on floor for practice he screams with frustration as he has not put it all together yet and cant move forward.
His speach is also starting to really progress.....

I think he has back teeth starting to move also...

His routiene is as follows

6:30am Wake
7am Bottle
8am Breakfast
9:30am Nap 1hr
12 lunch
2:30 nap 1hr
5pm dinner
7pm Bottle and Bed

Has anybody gone through this? I don't know if the problem is teething or awake due to imminent milestone??

Advice appreciated.

TBH, it sounds as though it could just be down to teething.  My DD is (on the whole) an excellent sleeper but since she's been teething  :o

I don't really know what to recommend as the only thing that works in this house is calpol and I hate the idea of giving her medicine too often so she only gets that if I'm completely wiped out and NEED some sleep.

Hugs honey - hopefully someone can offer you something a little more constructive!

Wendi - I'm going to move you over to Sleeping For Toddlers, as we generally put all posts for one year and over in that section. I think you will then get more people with children of a similar age to see your post.

Hope that's OK with you!

Hi

I had this with my LO - he turned 1 yr and then he would wake at 3.30 am chatting away for an hour.

I posted on this board and I had to look at my nap times.  Does you LO always sleep for a full hour in the afternoon as our problem was overtiredness.   He would sleep longer in morning and about 40 mins - 1 hour in afternoon but he was getting overtired by bedtime.   I also found that he would get tired easily at 1 year as he had just started to walk etc etc.

I made the am sleep shorter 30 mins and extended the afternoon sleep to 1hr 30 mins sometimes 2 hours and put him in bed a bit earlier and he got back on track.

Lots of posts under this board deal with this subject as the transistion from 2-1 sleep seems to cause all sorts of problems! ;)
