As some of you will know Ive been 'sleep training' Harvey for the last 2 weeks. It has been a huge sucsess an I want to thank everyone who offered advice for their support!!
Harvey was being rocked to sleep every night and waking during the early hours to sleep with us. He'd climb in to our bed and there he'd stay! He'd also be cuddled/rocked/taken out in the car for daytime naps. He'd nap at silly times and sometimes not go to bed till 9, other days he'd be asleep by half 7.
He is now going to sleep in his own bed, sometimes alone but more often with us in the room at a reasonable time (between 7.30 and 8 ) depending on if hes had a nap or what we've been doing during the day. For the past 4 nights he has slept right through!!! Yay!!
Ive been plotting a chart from the beginning to see when he goes to sleep and when he wakes (night times and mornings) and I was abit suprised to see the amount of sleep he is actually getting.
The last 2 days he hasnt napped, Im guessing becasue he's sleeping through hes just not tired enough to want a sleep during the day, at a reasonable time anyway!! (Last night he was falling asleep at half 5 in the trolley at Tescos!! LOL We managed to get through that and he was fine after, full of beans!!)
Anyway, looking at the chart, despite whether he has a nap or not he sleeps between 11.5 and 12 hours in a 24 hour period. If he naps he goes to bed later and it still totals this. If he doesnt nap he'll sleep from, for example, last night was 7.30 until 7.00
Is this 'normal'?! Im sure Jake slept more than that at that age and probably sleeps about the same now at age 7!! LOL And he was definitly still napping until he was 3 if not later! But then again Harvey is not Jake and I need to remember that!! LOL
Any ideas?! Do you think its okay for him to drop his nap at 2 and a half? I know the days he's at nursery he will probably have a short nap as it seems to tire him out more than being at home, also all the other chilren will be sleeping!!
