Hi ... new to EASY
« on: October 29, 2007, 01:16:48 am »

Hi everyone.  I'm new to the forum and to EASY.  I haven't gotten the book yet so I'm anxiously waiting to try it out with 2 month old baby boy.  My sister-in-law loves EASY and her 2 are working well with it.  So, I'm in desperate need to try this out because I am so running on low fuel.  Currently, I feed him every 2 hours or so but the bad thing is that I only get to sleep at night for maybe 4 hours.  I may get a nap in between but it's only for about 30 minutes or so.  I am currently bottle feeding him with my breast milk and do 2 formula feeds at night.  Here's a sample of what my day is like because I'm up for any type of advice.

I do a formula feed at about midnight or 1am.  He then sleeps until 5am.  I then do another formula feed.  And then for some reason, he sleeps better with me (which is a totally new topic to discuss) and then sleeps until about 9 to 9:30am.  Then I do a breastmilk feed at 10am, 12noon, 2pm, 4pm, 6pm, 8pm, and 10pm.  He sleeps whenever so I don't have an exact nap time schedule for him which is probably bad.  Activity wise, he plays in the morning but by the afternoon, I'm so burned out that I don't know how I even survive.

Anyways, after reading my page, I'm looking forward to any suggestions for me or advice, I'd love to hear it.

Hi and Welcome!  :D

Here are a few links to help you get started.

SLOW

By two months your lo should be able to go about 3 hours between feeds.  This will give you some more time to rest and will give your lo longer naps.

Here is a typical day (mind you this is just an out line as each lo is different)
I picked 9am as that is when you said your lo wakes.  Most lo's days are about 12 hours.  If you want your lo to go to bed earlier than 9pm you may want to start your day earlier.  Most lo's start their day between 6-8am, but it all depends on your needs and your lo's needs.

9am wake and feed
10/10:30ish nap
12pm wake and feed
1/1:30ish nap
3pm wake and feed
4/4:30ish nap
6 wake and feed
7-8 nap
9pm feed and bed
11pm DREAM FEED

Hope this helps.

For changing diapers at night, I would only do it if it's a poopy diaper.  Otherwise I would just let it go as it may wake up your baby more.

You are smart to just let it all soak in.  Take one day at a time and one thing at a time time.  Don't do too much at once.  Pick one thing you want to work on and go with that for a bit, then go to your next thing and so on.  It's all about enjoying your lo and respecting their needs while respecting your needs as well.

Let us know if you have any questions through out this wonderful journey!

Do you have the book?  She explains it in  there.  I couldn't find it on a cursory search.

Dream Feed is a feed between 10-11 PM where you gently rouse your baby to feed.  Your LO is half asleep as he eats and generally goes back to sleep really easily.  This is to help him fill his little belly to get through the night.

Cluster feeding is feeding every 2 hours for the 2 or 3 feeds before he goes to bed to "tank him up"  Once again, another way to fill his little belly.
