Introducing a lovie at over a year old
« on: November 26, 2007, 20:18:07 pm »
Hi. Have any of you tried introducing a lovie to your lo at over a year old? My dd could really use a lovie as we are trying to get her on EASY and until now her lovie has been my arm (especially the elbow)!! How do you suggest I go about getting her interested in a lovie? So far I just give it to her whenever she's going to sleep and say "here's your special blankey. You can hold on to it if you need to while you fall asleep." And I haven't been letting her stroke my arm anymore. So far she's just not so interested in it. What do you think I should do.
Now that I think about it though, she does seem quite attached to her paci. Perhaps that's her lovie?
Thanks!

I think DD's paci is def her lovie and comfort object. Do you mind the paci being her lovie? Did you want her to have something else as a substitute?

We introduced a 'lovey' for our DS when he was 1 year old. I was (still am) bf'ing so always held it with us during that time and cuddled it together for story time to try to get him attached to it. We played with it during play time, etc. It seemed to help.

Two months ago (he is now 22 months) he finally picked his own lovey (or should I say 3 loveys!) and wants them to sleep with all the time. He is not so interested in the one we picked for him. Maybe we should have tried to see which stuffed animal he was more interested in than which one I thought was the cutest - ha ha!
