Why has my son started waking in the night?
« on: November 23, 2007, 08:34:31 am »
Help!

My 11 month old son has started waking during the night and i dont know why?! He has been sleeping through the night since he was 3 months old. He has a good nap routine, he has a morning nap about 10am for upto an hour (sometimes he misses this nap though if he is not tired) he then has an afternoon nap about 3pm for upto 2 hours. He then goes to bed at 7pm. He settles himself to sleep but has started waking up around 3/4 am, at first he is happy to talk to himself but then i think he gets bored and starts to cry. I put his dummy in and leave which settles him for 10 mins or so but then he starts to cry again. This goes on until about 5ish. Where am i going wrong? ???

Hi there & welcome! :)

On the days when he doesn't take the morning nap, do you still put him down for the afternoon nap at 3pm?

Hi,

I only let him miss his morning nap if he is not showing that he is tired but he does still have his nap at 3pm.

Thanks.

If he misses his morning nap, I would put him down for his nap a little earlier so he doesn't get overtired.

I was going to say the same thing as Myia ;). If the morning nap is missed put him down around 11ish or so & consider that a 1 nap day & do an earlier bedtime to compensate. I think it might from overtiredness from the days he did miss a morning nap... might have accumulated over a couple of days & they start waking up at night.
