Well, he is doing better now.  He seems to getting back a little more on track now too.  He has been going down anywhere from 6:30-7:00 pm each night and waking only once in the evening or sometimes not at all and getting up around 4:30-5:30 am.  This is better.  The past 3 nights he has not gotten up between 7:00 pm and 4:30 am.  Last night he sleep thru the night from 7:05 pm till 5:20 am.  I think we might just have to deal with the 5:30 am wake time because even when he goes down earlier at night he still gets up between 5-5:30 am.
Looks like things are going better.  At least we have a 4 day weekend (because of Thanksgiving) to work on it too.

Yeah, last night he was down at 6:55 pm and he woke once at 10:00 pm and then again around 2:30 am and then got up at 5:15 am.
Hopefully, we will be doing better since we have a 4 day weekend coming up.

This may sound weird, but have you tried sucking his thumb? Make it into a game, or a distraction. Try to first just kiss his fingers and then maybe do rasberries on the back of his hand, then when he seems receptive or not really paying attention, just stick his thumb in your mouth and suck it! Lol! Sounds weird, but this way, you'll know if he is really in pain from nerve/skin damage from the HFM disease (if he pulls away and cries), but maybe, just maybe, he'll realize, Hey...mom sucked my thumb and it didn't hurt...let me try...
After all, they do learn by example!  ;)

We have tried sucking it a few times, but he doesn't seem to want us to do it much.  He doesn't cry but he'll pull it away and he won't let us mess with it much or suck it playfully like we have in the past.  I asked his Dr. about it when I took him in for his latest ear infection and she said that normally HFM disease sores are more superficial and don't cause damage, but hey you never know they could have been worse than normal.  I have caught him here and there sucking the tip again, but still not the whole thing like he did before.  We have dipped his thumb in iced tea as he likes my husband's tea and since we don't let him drink it that is like a treat and he will suck the tea off his thumb and come back for another dip.  We have also gotten his Halloween candy and taken the suckers that he got and rubbed them around on his thumb and he likes to suck it or lick it off his thumb......we still keep trying.  :-\
Sorry for the delay in response, with Thanksgiving I have been busy since 11/22/07 up until now......My grandma has been very ill and on Thanksgiving we found out that she was in critical condition.  She passed away this morning early (2:00 am) and it has been very emotional for me and my family.  She was 93 years old and was my mother's only parent still living, as my grandpa passed away in 1986.  :'(
Given the situation and all of the travel, (as my mom's family is 3 hours south of us and we drove there Saturday morning and came back Saturday night late, we got home at 1 am Sunday morning), Ben has been handling it well.  :)
**News: He slept the first 11 hour stretch last night, this hasn't happened in months, I had him down at 7:30 and he got up (from us waking him at 6:45 am--in his crib) he didn't wake even once last night.  :D
Hopefully this will keep up, unfortunately given the circumstances we will be travelling again later this weekend.   :-\

Thanks.  Its getting better.
The visitation is Thursday and the Funeral Friday.  So this weekend will be tough, but we'll all lean on each other.  :-\
Ben did pretty good last night again, he woke once about 1 hour after he went to bed and didn't lay down very easy, I held him for a little while to calm him down and then laid him back down and he slept in his crib until around 6:00 am and woke on his own happy and was just sitting in his crib holding his bunny and looking around (not crying though).  So, it seems we are on a good road ahead.  :)
