I can't believe I am even asking this question, since DS hasn't ever had candy! But he was just diagnosed with low muscle tone which also affects his oral-motor development. The occupational therapist suggested a lot of chewy foods which he hasn't really had before. She kind of jokingly said that chewing gum would be ideal, but he is a little young for it. I got some dried fruit, fruit snacks, and Twizzlers, but was wondering when it would be ok to give him chewing gum. At this point I am afraid that he would swallow it or would choke on it.
