3 YO on a restricted diet
« on: December 25, 2007, 20:35:09 pm »
Can you help me come up with a strategy for a 3 YO who eats a varied diet at nursery but eats from a very limited menu at home please ?

He will eat:

- cheerios with plain yoghurt
- croissants
- porridge with blueberries
- sandwiches (with jam, Marmite, cheese and honey)
- crisps, chips, boiled potatoes
- used to love beans - undecided at the moment
- peas
- cheese sticks
- grapes, bananas, rasperries
- fish sticks
- spaghetti bolognese
- soft boiled eggs

And that's pretty much it.

Normally, he eats from the above menu over the weekend. I don't usually worry too much about it because it is only for 2 days and there are worse diets but now we are home together for 10 days and I would like to see more variety please.

We don't stick to set eating times, mostly because I too am an erratic (and faddy) eater and because DS runs to a different schedule from ours.

DS and I always eat together. He has never shown any obvious interest in what I am eating but after a couple of months of seeing me eating something (say, porridge) he'll come to the conclusion that the new food hasn't done me any harm and that he may as well try it.

I always show him the food DH and I are eating and ask him if he wants a plate of his own and usually, he answer if "nah" !

I am started to feel down about it, especially as my Xmas lunch was turned down by both DH and DS today

TIA

I think that sounds good for his age  :-\ He is getting fibre, fruit, veg, etc... all the good stuff basically.

No diet is perfect but his selection looks better than many kids!

COMPLETELY agree with Steffi, looks  like a good mix, I wouldnt mess with it, seems like he does have something out of every food group, he eats much better than my son, honest x
