signs of going from 2-1
« on: January 07, 2008, 15:34:12 pm »
Hello there. My ds is 1 and he is up at 5AM, 5:30, 6 is the latest he has slep to. He has always been an excellent napper adn I started waking him for the AM nap after 1 or 1 1/2 hours. He usually goes down at 9-9:30. After noon nap is 2 or 2:30 adn he sleeps a good 2 hours, sometimes 2 1/2.
I wonder if I eliminate the AM nap, if he will add that hour onto his overnight sleep. One day I let him sleep to see how long he would and it was almost 3 hours he slept in the AM.
My big question is, hoe much can I manipulate his sleep and how much is he just a natural early riser?
Today I put him down at 10:30 and I will wake him after 1 hour.

Hi

I had an early riser until DD was about 11 months. The reason she was still waking early for so long was too much daytime sleep and I think that is happening in your case.

DD woke at a similar time to your LO and this was the routine that helped her sleep later.AM nap was 9.30-10.30 (1 hour only) regardless of what time she woke. Her PM nap was 2-3.30 (1.5hrs only).so basically 2.5hrs total for naps.

She was and still is an excellent napper and could do long naps if i let her but its not necessarily an indicator of needing to drop to one nap but limiting the amt of time they sleep.

I would keep the AM as you did before but shorten the PM nap.Its the long nap in the afternoon that is probably robbing from his nighttime sleep.

Thank you so much! It is comforting to hear a similar story. I had a hunch that he was sleeping too much in the day for him.
I will try to keep the morning nap short and limit the afternoon as you suggest. He can't go all day on 1 nap but 2 it SO much!
thank you for taking the time to answer bu post:)
