16 months and seems bored!
« on: January 07, 2008, 15:05:10 pm »
My 16 month old seems bored around the house. Its almost like this age is hard for her. She wants to be creative but isnt quite old enough. Any suggestions for this age group?

My DD (now 29 months) was definitely bored at that age now and TBH she still is often now around the house. Yes she has some engaging toys and crafts, etc but she just really thrives on being with others. Thankfully the weather is so good now that we've been spending tons of time outside and at the park so she can climb and run and play with other kids. But sadly it's going to get cold again soon. We also do a class one day a week - it's a great 1.5 hour class (I attend with her) that's half crafts/school like setting and half gym. We also do open play at her gym once a week if it's too cold to play outside and try to schedule play dates (both for her and me) whenever possible.

As for inside toys, I think at that age she started getting interested in the large wooden puzzles and in her play kitchen too.

Yes, my dd LOVES to be outside. I feel so sorry for her because it is cold. On Saturday it got to 55 and we went out just in the yard. OMG you would have thought we gave her the moon. All she wanted to do was walk around and look and feel things. She was so upset when we had to go in for lunch. Its suppose to get back down to 30, so no outside for us. I need to try gymnastics or some kind of class on the weekends. We live in the sticks so gymboree classes are non-existent. I think she is fine at daycare because there are three other children and tons going on. Even with one on one attention from mommy and daddy she is still very bored. I guess its a good thing she will have a brother or sister in April to keep her busy!  ;) Thanks for the reply!

My 16 mo old LOVES to be outside as well. He will take my hand and lead me to the door and gets SO UPSET if I don't take him out! Same thing, he just wanted to walk up and down are street and look at peoples yards! I took his car outside that he can ride in and he could care less, he just wanted to walk, walk, walk. Inside he loves to play with lego type blocks. He also likes to sit at the table and write on paper with a pen (he could care less about his TaDoodle crayons and coloring book).
