13 mth - now 1 aft nap but only 45-60 min long!
« on: January 06, 2008, 19:42:58 pm »
....
we have transitioned to one nap after lunch (1pm) and she is tired enough that she falls asleep right away no problem. But then she wakes up 45-60 minutes later VERY cranky...and is tired by 5pm.

Is this ok or should she be napping longer?
If so, how can you help them sleep longer (she is screaming to be picked up once she wakes up).

Suggestions? Ideas?

Thanks!

Really depends on the child but sounds to me she needs a longer nap.

Whats her routine at the mo?

up at 7:30
breakfast at 8
lunch at 12
nap at 1 (to ~ 1:45/2)
dinner at 6
bedtime at 7:30/8
then at night she wakes up 2-4 times

One possibilty is that she could be teething which can shorten naps and affect night sleep.

Have you tried moving her nap earlier? DD can easily do 5.5-6hrs awake time but shes a lot older.so i'd start limiting her awake time to 5 hrs and see if that makes a difference. Also try an earlier bedtime as well ,again i think that awake time is too much for her age.I'd aim for a 7pm bedtime if pos.
