Help me!! I am being held hostage!!
« on: January 18, 2008, 08:41:32 am »
Ok when I started this thread I was sort of laughing but now it isn't so funny.

For the past 3 days my DD and I have been playing shop. I moved the furniture around a little and there is a little space in behind a low unit that is perfect for her. She initiated the game and we have had so much fun!

However she is now obsessed, wont do anything else and wont let me do anything else! She freaks out if I move, I sat on the floor playing shop for 3 hours yesterday afternoon and she ended up hysterical when I had to go make dinner. This was all while we had a friend over for a playdate, she wanted nothing at all to do with the other little girl just wanted me to buy from the shop.

It is only 9am and we have already been at it nearly an hour! I came here as I don't know whether to keep encouraging her or what to do. It is just to much! Her shop playing cup is never full!!

It has taken me no more than 4 mins to type this and she is screaming, hysterical hiccuping, trying to bite my leg and drag me across the room. I hate upsetting her but I cant sit all day! My DS was almost late for school due to playing this game! aaaaa!

The only way to distract her is to go out but then as soon as we come back in I don't even get my coat off and I am back buying at that the darn shop again!

help!!

well, that's sort of what we're having with Maja wanting to 'cook' all the time too ::)
but it's easier for me as I can take her to the 'big' kitchen to stay there seated on the work top :P while I do whatever I have to do.
can you take her out to a real shop? so that you can at least leave the house and do some shopping the same time? ;)

LOL Mona great idea!! Mummy can get a little retail therapy in too ;)

I ended up going for a walk with her, we were heading to the playpark but it came on rain so we ended up at my mum's house. We came home just in time for nap.

I guess I will see what happens when she wakes up!

Is it normal for her to be so obcsessive about things?

She watched Bear in the big blue house one day last week, 1 video with 2 episodes. She is now obsessed with that too! And it whining and crying for Bear all day long.

Is this normal toddler behaviour??

She is almost 2 and boy am I knowing it!!!

Lee Ann, i guess it's PERFECTLY normal! Maja's like that too sometimes about some things. like I have to read her the same book before bed EVERY DAY which drives me crazy, but she just wants it and if I don't read it to her, she gets mad. she doesn't like the bear in the big blue house [I do ;) ] but she loves Teletubbies now [used to hate them ::) ] and when an episode is over, she gets all whiny too...

eh, those wonderful toddlers, right? ;)

Sorry for giggling, Lee Ann. I just love it though - until it happens to me right? :) ;)

Hope you get her Shopkeeping Cup to runneth over SOON!! :) Retail therapy sounds like a GREAT compromise to me.
