3 month old wakes up screaming from nap
« on: January 18, 2008, 17:23:31 pm »
My 3 month old will wake up crying from her nap.  Sometimes an hour into it and other times only 20 minutes into.  How do I know if she is done sleeping and wants to get up or if she is just frustrated because she can't get herself back to sleep?

Hello,

I find with our lo that if she wakes up crying, she is not done, so I pop her dummy in and 99% of the time she goes back off straight away.  If she wakes up happy and cooing, then she is done.  But I know all babies are different.

Does your lo use a dummy/paci or other soother to sleep - could it be that she has 'lost' it?

I would agree, crying on waking up is probably still tired at this age, although teething pain can start very young in some babies. What does the cry sound like? Is it sort of fussy moaning,or sudden high pitched,or something else? Is it different naps or the same one of the day that seems to bother her? How does she settle to sleep to start with,ie what is her temperament and how is she actually getting to sleep?
